Solar Eclipse Safety Info

Columbus Elementary Families:

On Monday, August 21, 2017 our community will experience an eclipse. The eclipse poses numerous learning opportunities, but also several dangers. Looking directly at the sun during a partial eclipse is very dangerous and can cause permanent vision damage. Texas is not in the narrow path of totality, which means the moon will not cover all of the area of the sun. Homemade filters or ordinary sun glasses are NOT SAFE for looking at this event.

The eclipse will begin at 11:40 am and finish at 2:39 pm. For safety purposes, all Columbus Elementary students and staff will be required to remain indoors as this event transpires. All scheduled outdoor activities will move indoors during this time. Dismissal times will not be affected.

Please use caution if outdoors during this time. We care about our Columbus Elementary Families and want all to be as safe as possible.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this manner.

If you have questions or concerns, feel free to call me at 979-732-2078.

Sincerely,

Shana Neisner, CES principal
