Beginner Band (5th Grade Students)

Hello 5th graders!

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU CAN BE IN THE BAND! I am excited to send you this letter about joining the Mighty Cardinal Band Family! Please sign up for band even if you do not know what instrument you want to play, and we will help you make your important decision. Band does not require a fee to participate. We will provide the instrument for you!

You may choose from the Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, and TUBA!

Students may also try Percussion but must select one of the other instruments as well. There are limited spots in the percussion class. Our goal is to make sure each student finds the instrument they will be the best at and enjoy performing on the most. This helps make the first year successful, and each year after that as well!

Everyone is welcome in band. We will never turn you away!

Beginner Band is the first step and first year of our Cardinal Band Program. Students will learn the fundamentals of performance such as sitting and holding the instrument correctly, “band breathing,” making a beautiful sound, reading and playing advanced music, and the character traits that make our students such incredible leaders and people.

The Beginner Band does not require rehearsals outside of school and only has two concerts during the school year to attend.

We realize the transition from 5th to 6th grade can be a scary time, but know that being a part of a team like band can help by having a huge group of friends you know that you see everyday. You can also be a part of other school activities AND be in the band at the same time. Many of our students pursue multiple activities throughout their junior and high school years, and we think that just helps them be that much better!

Band is a class that will fill you with excitement and help you love making music!

You will get an opportunity to go to DISNEY WORLD in high school so don’t delay!

We, as teachers, want to make your student as successful as possible, and also want to support you and them however we can. If you have any questions or concerns about the process of selecting an instrument, do not hesitate to contact us with the information below.

With Cardinal Pride,
